Moving closer!

I've been working on the wordpress version of the site, so have no fear it shall be up before too long! Though please be patient, I am going to school full time, while working, and trying to keep a social life (that's not based on the internet! *gasp* I know, it's crazy, but sometimes it just has to be done!)

I'm in a photography class so I'll be having lots of photographs to upload to my portfolio, along with over a years worth of work that I've been heavily procrastinating on uploading!

Hopefully this time next month will bring a new layout, and a new content management system!

So there is so much I want to do, but there seems to be so little time to do it...though that is factoring in my motivation level (which due to being on winter break, and working, is pretty much zip).
I have so much work to upload to update my portfolio.
I want to move the site to wordpress (a daunting task to say the least!)
But I also want to lay back and just soak in the world around me with a cup of tea nearby.

In other news, I think I am going to write a book...or well I am going to try to write a story at least...and we'll see where it goes from there!

In the meantime you can always check me out on various sites:
sarascreations.tumblr.com sarasinspirations.tumblr.com and sarasruminations.tumblr.com are all of my tumblr sites. I am also available on Facebook (including my more recent works), just go to Facebook and search Love The Design and you'll be sure to find me!

So I recently was hired at JC Penney for seasonal help, but it's already keeping me super busy (and I've only had two days of training!) I'm also busy with magic and school. I love it, but hate it all the same! I've been spending as much time as I can with Gary, he's quite wonderful. I also have my tumblr which I update daily. So I have *lots* to keep me busy!

So school has been keeping me super busy! I'm going online and it's really nice to get my homework on sunday and have a week to do it at my own pace!

Now onto better things in life, I have recently been introduced to Magic: The Gathering and my best friend moved in with me! (She's the magic player who got me introduced to it!) So every Friday we go to a game store in town and play in the Friday Night Magic tournament, yes it's nerdy, no I don't care because it's an awesome group of people!

I've met some pretty awesome people playing magic, including Gary! He's a total sweetheart and a kickass magic player!

School is almost back!

So school is getting ready to start. For those of you who don't know I am attending Central Ohio Technical College, I am majoring in digital media design, with a focus on Web Design and Development (Maybe that means I'll actually get off my lazy butt and code the new layout completely!) But we'll see.

Currently I've been hooked on Hexrpg.com, a Harry Potter roleplay site, it fills the hole where Pottermore belongs, (Honestly starting to think I'm actually a muggle, or maybe they sent Errol with my welcome owl...), but it's actually quite a fun site, I've made some awesome friends, (Hav dear that includes you!), I've also taken to doing a lot more designs! My main projects on hex have been making avatars (100px square icons that are displayed by each users name when they make a post on a thread in a forum). I have made close to 50, it's quite fun and exciting for me.

My birthday is coming up on Monday, not really excited, nothing special about it. Taylor has to work so I'm probably going to hang around at my house and lurk around on Hex, or I'll end up hanging with Ida. Either way it doesn't sound too bad, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for me!

So I go back to school in a month, though I'm not going to the same place as before. But I am still going for graphic design, (a focus in web design and development though). I am currently looking to buy a SLR camera but I'm not sure what one to buy, (plus I have to save the money to purchase it).

I have so much to do and so little time it feels. I still have to code the new layout for the site, and I have to move the site to wordpress, and I have a TON of new works to add to my portfolio!

Hopefully I can find a time to relax, slow down, and do some work! :)

Communication Inability

Here is a piece I just recently wrote (as in about 20 minutes ago). It's a work in progress, but let me know what you think.

A lack of personal communication is present in today’s society. Most people would prefer to send an email, text, or social networking site message. While technology has allowed us to be more efficient in many aspects, it has left us lacking in people skills. Our generation remembers what it was like to have to research papers using books, instead of Google, we know what it means to pick up a phone to call someone to ask to hang out; we know what it was like before internet, cell phones, email, and texting. This is something only the older generations will ever truly be able to cherish, the younger generations will not appreciate the value of technology like we have, seeing as they have been born into an era where almost every school has a computer lab, where they learn to research on the internet, before they learn that encyclopedias’ come in book form. Everywhere you see young children, elementary school ages, walking around with cell phones, texting their friends, where a child’s cell phone is more important to them than their childhood. We remember a time where we collected rocks, and shiny bobbles, and other useless objects, just because it was fun, now children and teens barely look where they’re walking for fear of not replying to the text fast enough.
The text message is so important to the person it distracts them, and can be dangerous, especially to those who are driving. Now we’re developing cars that you can make calls from by pushing a button on the steering wheel and talking, but why do we need this? Is it so important to call someone while you’re driving, so that it can distract you from the dangerous task at hand? 18% of fatal distracted driving crashes in 2009 involved cell phone use. How can that simple text message or phone call be more important than your life, your passenger’s life, and any other person in the vicinity’s life? The answer is that it is not, that text message will still be there after you finish driving, that person on the other end of the phone, will still be there waiting for you to call, after you stop driving. Why not go visit the person instead of calling or texting while driving. Distracted driving is extremely dangerous, no matter what is distracting you, technology, food, people. This constant need to be connected via technology has affected our actual ability to connect with another human being face to face.
Yet, it’s not only the children and teens that are affected by this, when you walk down the street, you cannot tell if some people are talking to themselves, or if they have Bluetooth. A businessperson’s staple is their Smartphone, email, and texting, they have to have that message right that instant, fifteen minutes is too long to wait. In a society where everything is instant, people do not build patience. We rush out the door in the morning, we rush to work, we rush to classes, we rush to lunch, we rush to get our fast food, and we complain if what we wanted done faster is not done fast enough, or if it is not exactly what we wanted. What we’re lacking is not made up for by our instant information. Nowadays one cannot even get lost on a trip without being irritated at a GPS unit, as opposed to enjoying the view. We all just need to take a deep breath, step back, and enjoy the view, we are only on this planet for an ephemeral moment, at least in history’s eyes, don’t make our moment’s impact on history be a bad one.
